Mardi Gras - New Orleans

15 February – 4 March 2014, New Orleans, USA

Posted: 10th February 2014 09:02

Even though Mardi Gras (or ‘Fat Tuesday) isn’t for another month, that doesn’t mean it’s too early to get into the spirit! This year, New Orleans will begin their Mardi Gras celebrations on the 15 February, with a whole calendar of parades and events planned right up until the big day, falling this year on 4 March.

The most popular time to visit New Orleans is the extended weekend before Mardi Gras (starting from Friday 28 February) as this is when the largest parades will take to the streets.  The festive celebrations extend right across the city; houses and buildings are draped in colour, and the pavements are packed full of revellers in the most amazing and outrageous costumes! Dress in the official Mardi Gras colours of purple, green and gold and prepare to join in with a wild weekend of fun and celebration.  The last day of the carnival season always falls on the day before Ash Wednesday – the first day of Lent – so make sure you get your groove on before you have to endure 40 days of being sensible.
