Volunteering abroad can be a great way to make the most of your time and money, as well as giving you vital experience in a specific field.  If you have an interest in marine conservation, animal care or simply just want to find a volunteer placement with a difference, Volunteer Solutions’ Marine Conservation Project may be the opportunity for you.

Based in the coastal town of Dénia, this placement gives you a chance to enjoy the east coast of Spain whilst also giving something back to the local environment.  Volunteers will be working on logging local marine life populations, monitoring animal behaviour and helping clean and maintain underwater habitats.  With the added prospect of learn how to scuba dive, this is a project that has something to give back to applicants.  Placements generally run for two weeks, but longer stays are welcomed.

The Mediterranean is a warm sea that has a huge variety of weird and wonderful creatures on show, including Hammerhead Sharks, Seahorses and Basking Sharks.  Whatever creatures you get involved with, you’ll be stunned at the variety and beauty that exists just beneath the ocean surface.

In your free time you can enjoy the balmy Costa Blanca, head north to Valencia to enjoy its world famous culture and food, or even take a weekend in Barcelona, not far up the country’s eastern coast.  There’s also plenty more activities that Dénia has to offer, including sailing, snorkelling and kayaking.
