Dubrovnik: Where To Stay

Dubrovnik although not a large city, is still a big draw, with accommodation scattered all over the place.  Although still cheap, it’s the most expensive city in the country – so expect to have to pay more for a room here than in parts of South Croatia.  Lots of midrange hotels are in Lapad, 4km west of the centre; there’s very little accommodation in the Old Town.  As the bus system is good, it’s not so bad to be located away from the centre.

As the major city of the area Dubrovnik has got some great nights out; as the sun goes down, the pub crawlers come out to infiltrate the many bars that can be found down the copious side alleys and streets.  Much of your drinking will take place in the Old Town.  But you are going to need a place to rest your head after a heaving night, so here are three excellent hostels where you will get to meet fellow revellers and enjoy that famed Croatian hospitality.

Hostel Villa Angelina Old Town

Hostel Villa Angelina is perfectly located in the heart of Old Town (inside the city walls) and was designed with the traveller in mind.  Staying here you will have endless possibilities to explore as the hostel is situated mere seconds from all major attractions of the charming Old Town.  Staying here means you can not only see the city’s history, but you can consume it too.  The hostel offers a fully equipped kitchen which enables you to prepare your own meals and doubles up as a great place where to socialise with other guests! Supermarkets are less than five minutes' walk from here and guests can access the kitchen from early morning to late in the evening.

Hostel Pearl

Hostel Pearl stands out as an antiquated building in the historic part in city centre of Dubrovnik only a short walk from the historical centre of Dubrovnik, Stradun-Placa.  The alluring Pile Beach is only a 30 minute walk away too, meaning this hotel is ideally situated.  As evening falls you can freely populate the nearby restaurants, galleries, historical monuments, numerous cafes, bars, clubs and amazing sightseeing points (Lovrijenac Fort,Gradac Park,Cable Car-Mountain Srđ).  Each room is equipped with Free WIFI, air conditioning and TV, whilst a number of apartments, suitable for families and groups, also offer private bathrooms and kitchens.

Hostel City Central Old Town

Old Town Hostel, in the heart of the rustic old Dubrovnik, is a beautifully-renovated 'cheap accommodation' hostel.  The 500-year-old, four-storey building is only 15 metres from the Stradun (main street), and seconds from all the restaurants, bars, and beautiful beaches.  It not only provides breakfast on the house but also free WIFI and loads of travelling advice and hot tips from owner of the hostel.  A number of accommodation options are available; choose from dorm rooms or private rooms, with the option of a private or shared bathroom.  Rooms are found in the private residence next door, and guests can enjoy free WIFI, use of the kitchen facilities and need not worry about lock outs or curfews!
