Top Students From 36 Countries Take on Global Goals

Posted: 22nd September 2017 10:35

This year, the Enactus World Cup project presentations by top college teams include an initiative that empowers refugees to earn an income by recounting cultural narratives in cooking classes within local communities, schools and businesses, a social enterprise driven by women who repurpose industrial waste into recycled paper, and a water purification project paired with a health and hygiene education program.

Enactus, an international non-profit dedicated to inspiring students to take entrepreneurial action to improve the lives of others, will host its 2017 World Cup September 26, 27 and 28 in London. This annual event features the best social innovation projects created by the top teams from 36 countries. Participating students compete for the Enactus World Cup, in the Enactus 1 Race 2 End Waste and the Enactus World Water Race, by presenting their projects before a select executive panel of judges and an audience of 3,500 student, academic and business leaders.

"The Enactus World Cup showcases future leaders and their innovative solutions to some of the world's most pressing challenges," says Enactus president and CEO, Rachael Jarosh. "This year, we are excited to welcome exeuctives from Enactus corporate supporters to collaborate and support students' work as we celebrate today's brightest young minds with heads for business and hearts for the world."

Student teams presenting at Enactus World Cup are chosen from more than 70,000 students on 1,700 college campuses worldwide in 36 countries. Each team presents their projects, demonstrating business innovation and deliver positive social impact while sparking their careers.

This year, Enactus World Cup will feature a Global Goals Forum hosted by Lord Dr. Michael Hastings, KPMG International's Global Head of Corporate Citizenship. The Global Goals forum addresses the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 and the work Enactus students are undertaking to accomplish these goals.

"Businesses need to consciously unlock the power of partnerships if we want to achieve the 2030 targets of the Global Goals," says Lord Dr. Michael Hastings, Global Head of Citizenship, KPMG International. "KPMG has partnered with Enactus over the past two decades through strategic investment, relentless support from our member firms and people, and our passion for making a positive on the future generation of young leaders, and through their actions in communities across 115 countries! This doesn't come from a sponsorship relationship, and has to be driven through a holistic and functional partnership!"

In 2016, Enactus students dedicated approximately 7,200,000 hours, creating and implementing over 4,100 projects that directly impacted more than 1,177,000 lives. These experiences not only transform the lives of the people the projects target, but help students develop the talent and perspective essential to leadership in an ever-more complicated and challenging world.

Enactus is an international organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. Guided by educators and supported by business leaders, participating students form teams on their campuses to create and implement community projects that put people's own ingenuity and talents at the center of improving their livelihoods. The experience transforms both the lives of the people the projects serve, and in turn, the lives of Enactus students as they develop into more effective, values-driven leaders. Founded in 1975, today Enactus has more than 70,000 student participants on over 1,700 campuses in 36 countries. For more information visit www.enactus.org.
