Introducing Projects Overland

Posted: 23rd December 2015 09:17

Volunteering abroad can be an incredibly challenging, unbelievably rewarding, and completely life changing experience.  During your trip you will get to know some of the most open, generous, loving and inspiring people you will ever meet, and you in turn get the opportunity to share your skills, your knowledge or simply your love with the communities that become your home.  There will be hard days and tiring days, but also some of the best days of your life.  Every day will be emotional, and you will find yourself laughing and smiling more than you ever imagined.  Projects Overland help people with the desire to help others put their good intentions into action, connecting volunteers with worthwhile projects, local families and other volunteers.  They will help you to support and empower the warm hearted and hardworking people of Tanzania with the projects you work on, and in return you will gain amazing memories that last a lifetime.  During your stay you will be taught a little of the local language and given a crash course in local culture before going to stay with your host family or at Project Overland’s volunteer hostel with other volunteers just like you.  As well as helping with a number of different projects, you will also have time to explore beyond the confines of the local area, and Projects Overland can help you plan wildlife safaris, cultural expeditions and city tours on your days off.

“I had an absolutely amazing time in a beautiful country, Tanzania, and will never forget my time with the people I met there” – Janina, Switzerland

Teaching

Teaching opportunities are a great way to give something really useful to the community.  Prior teaching experience is not necessary as most of the placements are with younger children who simply need to learn English, so all you need to bring with you is enthusiasm, a good work ethic and an open heart.  Simply being there to help with the simple tasks can make a huge difference to these children.

Orphanage

The orphanages in the Arusha, Kilimanjaroand Zanzibarareas are run by dedicated local staff, but resources are often scarce.  Projects Overland offer safe and affordable programs to help you dedicating your time and effort to helping with the day to day running of the orphanage – an experience that is both incredibly emotional and very rewarding.  No prior experience is needed; you will receive all the hands on experience you need in Tanzania.

Community

If you would like to volunteer in social justice or community empowerment initiatives then this is the perfect opportunity for you to get involved and use your time in a meaningful and effective way.  Projects Overland are continuously working to increase the number of programs they have in this area.

Medical

Current or former medical students that have successfully passed their course can share their skills and gain real life experience with one of Project Overland’s medical placements.  These give you the chance to help out in a range of hospitals and health centres in the Arusha, Lushoto and Kilimanjaro areas.
