No longer do you have to make drunken conversations at the bar in order to meet someone new. Online dating has become one of the most popular ways to meet a new partner and there are more than 1500 sites in the UK alone, catering for people from all walks of life and interests.  Through using one of our five recommended dating websites and apps, your next date could be right around the corner.

Tinder

Users search for potential dates by gender, age and distance in miles from their current location.  After that it is as simple as swiping ‘yes’ or ‘no’ based upon a profile picture.  Additionally you can only message that user after they have become a mutual match.

Your profile is synchronised to your Facebook account (but don’t worry; Tinder will never post anything on your Facebook so you can keep it discreet) to include your age and location whilst making it easy to upload profile pictures.  Another advantage is it lets you know if there are any mutual Facebook friends – preventing the awkward situation of going on a date with one of your exes mates!

Match.com

Founded over 16 years ago, match.com has carved a reputation as one of the biggest and most successful dating websites in the history of online dating.  Unlike other websites such as Plenty of Fish that have fallen by the wayside, Match.com continues to go on stronger than ever.  With millions of members, its large user base should mean there is someone for everyone.  Match.com also claims its site has led to more dates, marriages and relationships than any other.

Compared with other UK paid dating websites, their prices are very reasonable – ranging from £29.99 for a 1 month membership, to £12.99 per month for a 6 month membership.  If you are single and looking for a serious relationship there are few websites that can match Match.

Single Muslim

There are about 2.4 million Muslims in the UK out of an estimated population of 64 million.  That is less than 4%.  This low figure inevitably provides a stumbling block for any single Muslims interested in finding a companion with the same religious beliefs.  Enter SingleMuslim.com.

Since its foundation in 200, the SingleMuslim.com community has grown from a relatively small membership of just a few thousand, to 500,000 by 2010.  On average, the SingleMuslim.com website receives over 40,000 unique visitors every day, and more than 10% of the UK’s Muslim population are registered with an account.

Gay.com

Discover local gay guys in the free-to-use gay chat rooms where singles mingle in the digital world.  Make virtual reality an actual reality in the world’s largest online community of gay guys.  Millions have logged onto the free gay website to find romance, love, and more with other local gay men.

Gay.com is more than just a dating website; it is an entire community for gay men to connect with likeminded individuals whilst also receiving the latest news, engaging features, lifestyle content and gossip articles – all on one site.

Hinge

Hinge is yet to sweep the UK but when it does we guarantee it will be as big, if not bigger than Tinder.  The dating app actually borrows most of its interface from Tinder so many users will be instantly familiar with how to use it.  However, the main difference between the two is that on Hinge you can only see people with whom you share a mutual Facebook friend.  The website describes it as helping you meet “the types of people your friends might introduce you to, but haven’t had the chance.”
