An Introduction to Moshi

Posted: 13th January 2017 08:37

Moshi is the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro, and a gathering place for backpackers preparing to attempt the climb.  The tourism that Kilimanjaro draws in means that Moshi is one of the wealthiest and cleanest cities in Tanzania, and a relaxing place to chill out with other travellers.  Here are some of our favourite places to visit.

Kikuletwa Springs

These springs are a little out of town, but are well worth the trip.  The oasis boasts refreshingly cool blue waters which are the perfect place to go for a swim, and entry is only a few dollars.  If swimming doesn’t appeal you can grab something from the restaurant or just chill in the water with a good book.

Pamoja café

One of Moshi's main trades is coffee, and Pamoja offers a no nonsense café experience that makes it a favourite with travellers.  It has free Wi-Fi, there is always some sort of music playing and the menu features a mix of food, from western favourites to traditional African fare, as well as a nightly BBQ.

Old Moshi Hostel

The Old Moshi Hostel is a western style hostel with an emphasis on volunteering, and can provide opportunities for free.  Meals are also included, courtesy of the chef, and there are hot showers and fans in the rooms.  The town centre isn’t far away and can be reached on foot or by bus.
