Way Out West, when compared to some of the festival giants, is still in its infancy. Conceived in 2007 and held in club venues across Slottskogen, it did not become a fully-fledged three-day festival until 2012 – but don’t let its youth fool you, because Way Out West is fast making a name for its self on the European circuit.
This is the perfect event for any self-confessed music addict, as Way Out West isn’t dedicated to just one genre; festival goers can expect to encounter rock and alternative rock, indie, electro and hip-hop. In a nod to its roots, the main festival is complimented with the cub concept ‘Stay Out West’, which features exclusive after-hours gigs at numerous venues around the city, meaning you can party all night and day. This year’s headliners include rock legendsQueens of the Stone Age, The National, Robyn, Joey Bada$$ andRöyksopp, proving this event is going to an eclectic miss-mash of pure talent. In addition to first class music, the festival has grown to incorporate other activities such as art exhibitions and film showings at cinemas around the city. Your Way Out West weekend couldn’t get any more action packed if it tried.
As well as excellent music, Way Out West is also dedicated to preserving the environment. Environmentally certified, festival goers can expect gorgeously maintained parkland, organic and locally sustained catering and recycling bins at every turn. With an intimate, relaxed atmosphere, it won’t be long before Way Out West is considered the best European festival.
