FULL PROGRAM ANNOUNCED FOR THE 39TH GOTHENBURG FILM FESTIVAL

Screenings of over 450 films, world premieres, international actors & filmakers plus the famed Dragon Award all revealed for Scandanavia's biggest film event

Gothenburg Film Festival returns to the culture capital of Sweden for the 39th year with a packed program of screenings, showcases and seminars spanning all genres of the industry. A gala red carpet event will welcome screenings of some of the most talked about releases in cinema including A Bigger Splash, The Danish Girland Spotlight and Muhammed: The Messenger Of God. Stars of the industry confirmed for the event include Laurie Anderson, Athina Rachel Tsangari, Brady Corbett and Luca Guadagnino. Nordic TV drama will be celebrated with screenings of Trapped,Occupiedand Springflodento name but a few. The best in Scandinavian Cinema will also complete for this year's prestigious Dragon Award and the prize of one million SEK. The heart of the festival is not only a recognition of Nordic films but a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Gothenburg. Gothenburg Film Festival runs from 29th Jan - 8th Feb, with festival tickets starting at just 50SEK (around £3.70). With over 450 films from 84 different countries being shown over eleven days Gothenburg Film Festival is not only the largest and most important film festival in the Nordic region, but an ideal destination for travel and arts enthusiasts alike thanks to its beautiful location of Gothenburg.

Nigeria's Nollywood will be a specific focus for the festival and visitors will get a unique insight into one of the world's most vibrant film countries with special screenings of visual masterpieces such as Fifty, Code Of Silence and O-Town. This year's festival will also look at the Italian film industry with screenings of Arianna and Wondrous Boccaccio amongst others. A plethora of international stars and directors are confirmed for the festival with Laurie Anderson, Athina Rachel Tsangari, Brady Corbet, Luca Guadagnino and Biyi Bandele all attending alongside a host of Italian, Swedish and Scandinavian directors and actors.


The Dragon Awardis one of the festival highlights, and with the winner receiving 1 Million SEK it's also one of the biggest prizes in the film world. This years Dragon Award will be judged by a committee of international writers and actors, and chaired by US director Laurie Anderson. Making up the rest of the panel is Swedish actress Saga Becker, Danish director Christian Thomsen Braad, Icelandic producer Sigurjón Kjartansson, Norwegian photographer Anna Myking and Sara Norberg, director of the Helsinki International Film Festival. The nominated films will also be competing for the Sven Nykvist Cinematography Award, The international critics' FIPRESCI prize, the Scandinavian Award for Extraordinary Locations, Lorens Award for best producer and the Best Nordic Film Audience Choice. Nominated films include Yarden, Land Of Mine, Sparrows, A War, Granny's Dancing On The Table, The Mine, Welcome To Norway! and The Model.


Since 1979 Gothenburg Film Festival has delighted film fans, producers, directors and culture enthusiasts alike with it's vast and varied program of everything film related and 2016 will be no different, with screenings, workshops, seminars, music and industry activities all taking place in the beautiful venues of Sweden's second largest city.
