There is nothing better than stretching out on the golden sand with an ice cream in one hand and a good book in the other.  Also the perfect way of whiling away a long plane or coach journey (and starting a conversation with the cute tourist sat next to you) every traveller should have a book or two stowed away at the bottom of their hand luggage.  Check out our guide of the hottest new releases and the best reads of 2014 to find out what books you should be packing this summer.  A dip in the sea can wait.  You’ve got a chapter to finish.

The Little Beach Street Bakery – Jenny Colgan

Colgan’s latest (and much anticipated) chick lit offering is set to hit the shops this March.  Forced to move to Cornwall, Polly Waterford decides the best way to beat ex-boyfriend blues is through baking.  Expect tears, laughter and a lot of spilt flour.

The Son – Jo Nesbo

Norway’s favourite crime writer is back.  Upon learning the truth about his disgraced father, Sonny breaks out of prison and vows to seek revenge.  Nesbo is known for his gripping plot lines and electrifying twists and The Son, out in April, won’t disappoint fans.

Half Bad – Sally Green

Has Twilight left a supernatural-sized hole in your heart? Then Half Bad is the answer.  Green’s offering is the first in an incredible new series; expect warring witches, good versus evil and a mysterious little boy who has the power to destroy everything…Edward who?

The Dead Wife’s Handbook – Hannah Beckerman

Rachel, Max and their daughter had the perfect life – until Rachel suddenly passed away.  Now, a year on from her death, Rachel grieves for the life she once lead.  Heart-breakingly beautiful, Beckerman’s debut novel will have you weeping into your beach towel.

The Wolf of Wall Street – Jordan Belfort

Belfort is one of the most notorious names in finance history.  And yes, this book has been out for a while, but for anyone who was left the cinema amazed (or appalled) by Leo DiCaprio’s drug-fuelled antics, this one is a holiday must.
