Your Complete Jaipur City Guide

Posted: 4th September 2015 08:28

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and is filled with enough history to earn it a place on India’s most popular tourist trail, known as the Golden Triangle.  While Delhi is known for its colonial history and Agra for its Mughal relics, Jaipur tells a different story.  The Rajput kings lost their independence to the Mughals, and won it back by allying with the British against them a few centuries later.

As a result, modern Jaipur boasts a colossal City Palace which showcases a blend of Mughal and traditional Rajasthani architecture, the 18th Century Jantar Mantar observatory, and the nearby Amber Fort.  The city’s most distinctive building however is the Hawa Mahal, where you can look out over the bustling streets below just as members of the royal household did many years ago, or you could simply wander into the heart of the Pink City and explore it for yourself.

Where to Stay

For years all backpackers really wanted was clean, comfortable accommodation that wasn’t miles out of town.  The recently opened Pink Turban offers this and much more, with a roof-top terrace, fully equipped kitchen, countless popular restaurants and bars within walking distance and laundry services to make sure that you have some fresh clean clothes for the next leg of your journey.
