Victoria Falls

Located in South Africa on the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe, Africa’s most famous waterfall, the Victoria Falls, are neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world. It is the combination of its height and width that result in it being the largest sheet of falling water in the World. At nearly 1,000,000 litres per second of falling water Victoria Falls is known locally as Mosi-Oa-Tunya – which literally translates as ‘the smoke that thunders’. This is a totally unspoilt UNESCO World Heritage Site and rainbows appear to come out the watery depths as the light catches the mist created by the falling water.

Devils Pool

The currents of this infinity pool appear to rush swimmers to its edge, threatening to thrust them into the gushing waters of Victoria Falls. The heart stopping rush you get from dangling on the ledge is unique and unrivalled by any other waterfall. The experience is surpassed only by the deafening sound of the water crashing on the rocks below and the staggering beauty of the rainbows it creates. Not one for the faint-hearted or the lazy – would-be bathers have to hike to the top of Victoria Falls to get to the pool. The incredible view of the land below, however, is more than worth it.

The Big five

Zambia is one of the only places that the big five can still be seen in their natural habitat. The big five refers to the African elephant, African leopard, African lion, Cape buffalo and rhinoceros which were supposedly the five most dangerous and most difficult animals to hunt on foot. Tourists can opt for a variety of the safaris available in most of the national parks and wildlife reserves in Zambia and each has something different to offer. An overnight safari increases the probability of seeing most of the big five, a driving safari will see more than a walking safari, and the latter offers a more intimate overall experience.

Africa’s Adventure Capital

Zambia is Africa’s Adventure Capital. Subtropical weather, rugged landscapes and huge spaces lend themselves perfectly to adventure activities of all kinds. Whether it’s jumping off things, into things, climbing up or around them, whatever dangling, hanging, flying, diving, falling, plunging or spinning you have in mind, you will find it in Zambia. Go abseiling surrounded by some of the most magnificent scenery in the world, or bungee jump into one of the world’s most powerful waterfalls. White water rafting and kayaking are popular as combinations of adventure and safari activities. Only in Zambia can thrill seekers can navigate rapids and observing grazing elephants nearby.

Tourist friendly

Zambia is one of the safest countries in Africa with the crime rate being similar to that of an average European country. Zambia enjoys similar democratic policies to other global democracies and therefore underlying tensions in the country are minimal and the risk to tourists no more than it would be in Europe. The Zambian population is made up from several tribes scattered all over Zambia and tourism is the main industry and English is the main language. Tourists are welcomed with open arms and many of the countries attractions and facilities have been developed specifically with tourism in mind.
